Sigma Lens Serial Number Check

I'm not sure if this has be posted already .
There seems to be an issue with a few sigma lenses and the AF on them .
I've only found out as my new 120 - 400 comes within the problem serial numbers . I've not had any problems but i've only used it a couple of times .
I tempted to contact them to see where I stand if something happens in the future out of warrenty if I don't send it back for checking .

Auto focusing issue affects limited number of Sigma telezoom lenses
After thorough investigation, we have ascertained that some APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM, APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM and APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM lenses, produced recently, may have a potential autofocus defect.
This issue could possibly occur in some lenses within the following range of serial numbers:
--- APO 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM
--- Serial Numbers between 10633051 and 10972000
--- APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM
--- Serial Numbers between 10574001 and 10972000
--- APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM
--- Serial Numbers between 10674301 and 10972000
This is a limited problem that will not occur in any lenses other than those specifically listed above.
To overcome this issue, we are offering our customers an inspection and where applicable, a modification service, free of charge. In the case of any autofocus problem becoming apparent on inspection, we will rectify the situation and make every effort to minimise delay and inconvenience.

I had a problem with my Sigma 28 f/1.8 (one of my favorite lenses). I contacted Sigma service first, described the problem, they told me to send it in. They fixed the lens for me under the warranty (i.e. For free) or perhaps replaced it, I'm not sure; I didn't note the serial number of the original lens before I sent it in. Try contacting Sigma in your country with details of your lens (including serial number). They should be able to advise you. Or take your lens to a camera store and try it on a demo camera.

It is possible as the USB Dock recognizes the serial number of products. Even though you have 2 pieces of 1 lens, the software will not mix up the lens information and each customization. Does the software offer off-line operation? Firmware updating and the lenses connected to the USB Dock for the first time require internet access.

The remaining digits in the serial number, SSSSSSS, are a uniquely-identifying number of the lens – likely within the production month. Please note that, while the overall chart is holding out nicely with the lenses we've checked (including several late-2014 models), it is a work-in-process. . Does not include serial numbers 900001 to 902908. These numbers were used on Sigma-Martins back in 1981-1982.

All my Sigmas have them on the bottom of the lens, by the camera mount.

Here is a photo of a Sigma 17-70 I used to own. The Serial number is actually a sticker. Mine was coming off so I glued it back in place. Maybe yours has fallen off too?
This photo also shows how the rubberized finish of the lens barrel can peel away with lots of use.
